Parent Teacher Conferences

It sure is hard keeping up with this now that I am back to work.  No worries though, I will try my best!  I love looking back and reading these.  It's my way of journaling what our family is doing.

Speaking of which... this week we have had parent teacher conferences for both Alex and Rhoslyn.  They went really well!  Alex is doing so well in school.  He is really enjoying learning how to spell and sound out words.  When he is home, you will often hear him saying a word, sounding it out and trying to spell it.  One of his favorite times of the week is Library Day.  He gets to choose three books from the library, and he loves bringing them home for us to read.  He is only in kindergarten and is already not being challenged enough in math class which is not a surprise considering he was already adding and subtracting small numbers in his head at four years old.  He was pretty down about school this afternoon.  He is having a hard time transitioning to going five days a week.  When I asked him what he didn't like about school he mentioned math time because it's too easy.  He has a great teacher though, and I am sure after I speak with her she will start to challenge him more.

I had Rhoslyn's conference last night, and she is also doing very well.  She knows how to spell her name.  She is also writing her name (some letter she has a hard time with, but she loves practicing).  She knows all of the uppercase letters in the alphabet and knows 19 lower case letters.  She is great at counting.  She is also sharing better and being a good helper when it is time to pick up.  She LOVES daycare, which makes mom and dad really happy.  She is a social butterfly as well and has tons of friends.

So far our school year has started out pretty great!  Let's hope it continues!

Dance Class!

Today was Rhoslyn's first day of dance class and she absolutely loved it!

They started with tap and moved onto ballet.  She did such a great job following the teachers directions and she loved watching herself in the big mirrors.

I think she will stick with dance for quite awhile.  She can't wait to go back.

First day of Kindergarten/Preschool

Although it's been two weeks, I wanted to share pictures from the kids first day of school/preschool.

Alex started Kindergarten and he is loving it.  Mom was a little sad that she couldn't take him to school that day, but he made it on the bus from daycare and I saw him in the hall a couple of times.  One of the best parts of my job is being able to say Hi to him throughout the day and eat lunch with him every so often.

He is really enjoying Kindergarten so far and loves math time.  On his first day I asked him how it went and the first comment he made was lunch was good and they don't get to play very much.

Rhoslyn's been in daycare for a month and half, but they started the preschool program on the first day of school.  She has preschool for about 3 hours a day.  Everyday they write a note letting us know things she did.  (For those that don't know, the kids go to our local Lutheran Church Daycare Center)

Her note on the first day or two was that she thanked God for dresses!  I laughed so hard when I read that.  The cutest thing ever.  She loves daycare and she loves preschool.  She is definitely in the "three's" and going through some sharing issues.  One day instead of napping she decided to take her underwear off (she had a dress on).  So now we have to make sure she has shorts on if she wears a dress.  Oh Rhoslyn...

Happy 3rd Birthday Rhoslyn

Our little girl is now a three year old!

Around midnight on the 7th we had a wicked storm come through.  We woke up around 12:30 a.m. and noticed the power was out.  Our play house flipped over and went into the park behind our house.  It looked like strobe lights outside from the lightening.  First Alex woke up and came in our bed.  Then Rhoslyn woke up shortly after.  We even had to bring the dogs crate into our room because he was scared as well.

Needless to say we did not get very much sleep, and I had to be up at 4:45 a.m. for work.  The kids could not settle and fall back asleep.  So, we spent about two hours with them tossing and turning, stealing our pillows and arguing that the other sibling was touching them.  Finally the storm passed through and I requested they go back to their rooms.

Finally got back to sleep around 2.  Woke up and realized we still didn't have power.  Yay!
I wasn't sure if I would be working or not... it was fun trying to get ready by candle light.

I worked for a couple of hours even though school didn't have power either.

We came home and discovered we STILL didn't have power.  We proceeded with opening presents, went to lunch at Mcdonalds, came home and everyone took a nap.

At 5:00 we STILL didn't have power, so we headed over to Gram's and Gramp's house for dinner and showers.  Oh how nice that shower felt!

We celebrated with cupcakes, hung out for awhile and headed home around 8:00-8:30.  Finally our power was back on!

I don't think we will ever forget her 3rd birthday!

(Keep an eye on her favorites and birthday party... coming soon)

"I will survive"

Well, I survived my first week back to work!

So far I am enjoying my job and I think I will enjoy it even more when I get to help in the classroom this school year.

I even survived getting up at 4:45 every morning (well except today because I forgot to set my alarm which left me 20 minutes to shower and get ready).  I am definitely tired that's for sure!

I have been complimented a lot this week on how well I am doing, which is a great thing to hear after not working for 5 1/2 years!

The kids are enjoying daycare.  Mom and dad are VERY happy with where they are going.

Now we get to celebrate Rhoslyn's 3rd birthday tomorrow.

Can't believe she is three...

It continues...

Let's see, I think we are on day 6 right now of potty training.

Rhoslyn is now pooping in the potty, which is awesome!  She hasn't pooped in her undies at all and I am crossing my fingers that she doesn't.

I don't think we had any accidents yesterday, but she still takes forever to actually go and half the time starts her fake crying because I make her sit down and shut the bathroom door.  Maybe in a few days she won't fight me to go on the toilet?!  I only hope so...
